Is the Paris Agreement enough? An Evening with Paul Broady
19/10/2018 at 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
Is the Paris Agreement enough to keep us under the +1.5 degrees target? Join Paul Broady from UC to find out!
Much thought and action is being given to reduce the effects of climate change. But what must the global community achieve by the end of the century in order to avoid dangerous shifts in climate? We will mostly focus on a recent (2017) report from James Hansen and his group (Columbia University, U.S.A.) that suggests the ambitious goal of the Paris Agreement of an increase of less than +1.5 degrees Centigrade is insufficient. Hansen retired from NASA in 2013 after 46 years of government service in order to take a more active role in the politics of climate change but has also continued in research. We will look at their suggestion for what is needed, the evidence in support of this and whether it can be achieved.
