  • This event has passed. September Film/Discussion Evening

18/09/2020 at 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Next Friday evening we will watch a video of Sir JONATHON PORRITT in a conversation on climate change, Covid-19, politics, and action.

“The Covid-19 crisis will engender a new sense of purpose and urgency in our politicians around the world.”

“We need to move the old guard, the incumbency, out of the way, faster.”

“I emphasize the importance of leadership in young people.”

Environmental activist Sir Jonathon Porritt says climate breakdown is both an urgent challenge to our economic orthodoxy and our spiritual and material evolution as a species.

Sir Jonathon expresses a new sense of exasperation in his recent book, Hope in Hell: A Decade to Confront the Climate Emergency.

The son of former Governor General of Aotearoa/New Zealand is now calling for civil disobedience to rescue the planet and secure our children’s futures.

Hear more from him in an interview on RNZ.

Following this we will view some short clips re the coming NZ election.

Lots to discuss. Bring along your young folk too as Porritt has a focus on youth and political action.

Please join us and stay for a discussion over a cup of tea afterwards! Koha appreciated to help us pay for the venue.

Note that if Covid level 2 still applies on Friday evening there is a limit of 30 people in the WEA hall.
