Bridgestone Reserve (Papanui Bush)

07/05/2021 at 9:30 am - 12:30 pm

The restoration of Papanui Bush is a community project between a number of different groups, notably the Christchurch City Council and Papanui Rotary Club.

The aim is to develop an area in the Papanui community to enhance drainage and the ecosystem to provide an amenity to carry out passive recreation, restore cultural heritage, and encourage native birds back into what once was part of the Papanui Bush.

This area was once a well established track to the Kaiapoi Pa. The name Papanui is thought to mean “a platform in a tree from which birds were snared”. The vision is to create a forest remnant similar to that which once dominated the area, with plantings of kahikatea, matai and tōtara among others.

Come along and be part of this project and learn more about the history of Papanui Bush and the area.

We’ll be working alongside members of the Papanui Rotary club to release plantings within the reserve. The working bee will run from 9:30am-12:30pm but feel free to come for what time you can.

Gloves, tools and morning tea will be provided. Please wear sturdy, closed-toe footwear and a sunhat, and bring along a water bottle. We recommend long sleeves and trousers as protection from the sun and long grass.

We’d love to see you there, so please register here. Contact Donna (dlusby@cvnz.org.nz) 021 457 568 for more information.
