Charlesworth Street Reserve – Community Planting
17 May at 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Members of the public are warmly invited to take part in a planting event at Charlesworth Street Reserve on Sunday 17th May to establish native trees and shrubs, supplied by Trees for Canterbury and the Christchurch City Council’s Regional Parks Team.
Charlesworth Reserve is being gradually developed to re-establish estuary-edge ecosystem features such as salt-meadow, salt-marsh and coastal bush that are now either very rare around the estuary or non-existent”. Work at Charlesworth Reserve has included planting of coastal bush; installation of culverts to allow tidal flows to enter the reserve; development of walking tracks and bridges; installation of new signage; and will include the continuation of plantings and a predator trapping programme. Support for the project, so far, has come from Trees for Canterbury, Christchurch City Council, and the Avon-Heathcote Estuary Ihutai Trust.
The event is scheduled between 10.00am and 12.00pm on Sunday 17th May at Charlesworth Street Reserve situated on Charlesworth Street (off Ferry Road). Look for the signs. Bring along family, friends and a spade.
