Coal Rebellion: Peaceful Civil Disobedience
09/08/2019 at 6:00 am - 8:00 pm

Mass extinctions, ecosystem collapse, oceans dying, what do you have to lose? Worth taking a day off work to give us a chance of a future that’s worth living?
We’ve put Canterbury Coal Users on notice that coal use will have to end now, that it’s a choice between coal or life. On August the 9th we’ll disrupt one of these coal users with a powerful and peaceful mass action that we promise will be worth attending, and even travelling from other parts of the South Island for. We are aiming to make this our biggest action yet. For maximum effectiveness we can’t name the target of the action now. If you’re a coal user in Canterbury who doesn’t want to have your operations disrupted, then you need to talk to us now.
Please feel encouraged to attend even if you’ve never come to an action before. You can still make a really valuable contribution even if you don’t want to be arrested or be interviewed by media. Training, support, and further information will all be provided.
If you’d like to be in an arrestible role (and there are plenty of other good ways to participate if not) you’ll need to have had non violent direct action/civil disobedience training. Next opportunity will be the excellent greenpeace peaceful civil disobedience training coming up on Sat Aug 3rd: https://act.greenpeace.org/page/41129/data/1. If you’d like to be arrestible and can’t manage this/haven’t trained before, please message us.
Have some fun and get to know us and our plans at the launch party for Coal Rebellion, on July 27th, here: https://www.facebook.com/events/356248611739845/
Please plan to attend a pre-action briefing on the night before, too.
We hope you can come and join us to rebel for life together.
