Cranford Basin Community Planting Days
26 June at 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
We are working in conjunction with Christchurch City Council to plant a forest of 40,000 kahikatea trees in a wetland area that will provide stormwater retention services as well as enhancing urban biodiversity. Matariki Tu Rakau is part of the One Billion Trees programme, helping people to plant living memorials that honour members of their communities. Matariki Tu Rakau was launched on 25 April 2018 to mark the 100-year anniversary of the end of the First World War.
Meeting point: 103 Philpotts Rd, Mairehau. Park on the street and walk in unless you require easy access. Cyclists are welcome to bring bikes on site.
We have four community planting days this winter:
– Saturday 29 May – Celebrating World Environment Day and Arbour Day
– Saturday 26 June
– Sunday 5 September – Father’s Day
– Sunday 10 October
Planting is from 10am-12pm, followed by soup on the first three dates (please bring your own mug), and a BBQ on the final day.
Gumboots or sturdy boots are essential as this can be a very wet site. Please bring your own gardening gloves, a water bottle and dress appropriately for the weather.
We’d love to see you there, so please register here. Contact Donna (email@example.com) 021 457 568 for more information.
