Cranford Basin Planting

08/09/2021 at 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

We are working in conjunction with Christchurch City Council to plant a forest of 40,000 kahikatea trees in a wetland area that will provide stormwater retention services as well as enhancing urban biodiversity. Matariki Tu Rakau is part of the One Billion Trees programme, helping people to plant living memorials that honour members of their communities. Matariki Tu Rakau was launched on 25 April 2018 to mark the 100-year anniversary of the end of the First World War.

Meeting point: 103 Philpotts Rd, Mairehau. Park on the street and walk in, or drive in and park off the track.

If volunteers are keen, we may continue to plant in the afternoon. If you’d like to do this, please bring your own lunch and snacks.

Gumboots, waterproof shoes or boots are essential. Please bring your own gloves if you have them.

We provide: tools and a friendly team leader. Please bring a water bottle and come dressed appropriately for the weather.

We’d love to see you there, so please register below. Contact Donna ( 021 457 568 for more information.
