CWMS Community Group meeting
19/09/2018 at 9:30 am - 11:30 am
Kia ora kōrua
Environment Canterbury would like to invite you to participate in a Canterbury Mayoral Forum project to ensure that the Canterbury Water Management Strategy (CWMS) is fit for the future needs of the region.
The Canterbury Water Management Strategy – Fit for Future project was initiated to develop 2025 and 2030 goals for water management in Canterbury, and advice on enablers and barriers to strategy implementation, and recommendations for addressing these. There are ten target areas in the CWMS with targets currently defined for 2020 and 2040. The Canterbury Mayoral Forum considered that goals needed to be set for 2025 and 2030 to bridge the gap and help maintain the focus on improving Canterbury’s water management. The attached document provides you with more information on the CWMS and the Fit for Future project and its structure.
A key component of developing the new targets is to get feedback and input from a wide range of community and sector groups. We are holding three workshops for community groups, a workshop for industry groups and another for irrigation scheme representatives. The same information will be presented to each workshop. Feedback will also be sought from Zone Committees, Ngāi Tahu and Territorial Authorities.
We would welcome your attendance at one of the three community workshops detailed below, where we will introduce the project and see if we’re on the right track with the initial direction for the targets.
- Wednesday 19 September, 9.30am – 11.30am at Environment Canterbury’s Tuam St, Christchurch offices;
- Thursday 20 September 5:30 pm – 7:30pm at Waihi Lodge, 16/24 Shaw Street, Geraldine;
- Monday 24 September 5:30pm – 7:30pm at the Waikari Community Hall, 99 Princes Street, Waikari.
There will be a further workshop in mid-late November where we will ask for your comments on draft targets. We would encourage you to attend both workshops if you wish to contribute to the project. Attendees will be sent further background information prior to each workshop.
Please RSVP to this email address by Friday 31 August. We hope that you are able to contribute to this opportunity to further progress the Canterbury Water Management Strategy and we look forward to hearing from you.
