From the Ground Up – Future Christchurch Communities with Susan Krumdieck
08/05/2019 at 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
MAY QUAKER FORUM
A free monthly public meeting on subjects of community concern
Christchurch is expanding with a sprawl. Think 50 years into the future. What will have changed?
Our sprawling growth assumes there’ll always be cars, but that won’t be the case. How should we be
planning and building towards a sustainable 50-year future? What do we really want our
communities to be like, and how would we manage both new growth and how present suburbs could
be changed? It won’t be easy – or will it? Dr Krumdieck will discuss a whole lot of immediate and
intensely practical ways of moving forward to sustainable communities starting, as a feasible
example, with Riccarton.
Susan is a professor at the University of Canterbury School of Engineering. She has worked on
numerous engineering and long-range projects with industry. She is widely published and has
received many awards for her work on sustainability.
Room E14, University of Canterbury School of Engineering
(Note the unusual venue – enter Engineering Core from Creyke Road)
The speakers will outline issues, pose questions, then open the floor for questions,
comments, and ideas. The Forum ends with tea and informal discussion
