Green Drinks at XCHC Cafe
22/06/2021 at 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
The next Green Drinks will host social anthropologist Piers Locke. Piers will stimulate a discussion about how we can reorder our economic life in the interests of a just and sustainable future. He will introduce the ideas of Degrowth and Doughnut Economics and explore ways in which Circular Economy initiatives are beginning to transform economic life in our region.
You may have seen Piers generate lively engagement recently with his talk Welcome to the Anthropocene as part of the WEA’s Scientific Snippets series.
These events are place-based and purpose-driven, giving us, the people of Ōtautahi Christchurch, the opportunity to engage with the different roles we can play and hear stories of those already making changes in their lives.
Green Drinks attracts a lively mixture of people from NGOs, academia, government and business; come along and you’ll be made welcome. Just say, “are you green?” and we will look after you and introduce you to whoever is there. It’s a great way of catching up with people you know and also for making new contacts. Everyone invites someone else along, so there’s always a different crowd, making Green Drinks an organic, self-organising network.
These events are very simple and largely unstructured, but many people have found employment, made friends, developed new ideas, done deals and had moments of serendipity.
