Heading for Extinction: What we can do about it
02/08/2019 at 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm
$5
Extinction rebellion have been in the news quite a bit of late! This is your chance to find out all about this growing global movement whose purpose is to get governments to act urgently on the climate and ecological emergency we face. This talk by members of XR Christchurch will offer insight into the imminence and severity of climate breakdown, through outlining compelling (and non-contentious) scientific evidence. The speaker will explain why the IPCC is under-reporting the speed with which climate breakdown is occurring, and how this has led to governments and the public failing to understand the need for urgency. The likely environmental and social impacts of climate breakdown are explored, and the focus then turns towards the most effective way we as citizens can bring about lasting positive environmental and political change.
This rebellion is fuelled by love, and their love is ignited because those leading XR choose to embrace the grief of these times. Grieving is part of the process of opening to how devastating our environmental, political, economic and social situation is. The antidotes for climate anxiety are connection and action. This rebellion is for everyone and they welcome everyone.
