Celebrate Matariki with a dawn karakia and planting ceremony at the rongoā garden (medicinal plants), Styx.
Join rongoā practitioners as they celebrate Matariki, the Maori New Year, with a dawn karakia and tree planting – a symbol of new beginnings.
The dawn planting will be followed by a hui, where we share some kai (bring a plate of food to share) and discuss the plans for the next 12 months for this new park. You are welcome to come along and hear the ideas and share your thoughts.
Or you can join us at 10am for a second planting event. We will be planting 500 native trees and shrubs and we’d love your help. This planting event is suitable for families.
Dress warmly with sturdy footwear or gumboots recommended.
