Matariki Tu Rākau planting

09/10/2020 at 10:00 am - 12:30 pm

We will be planting over 2000 kahikatea trees in a wetland area that will provide stormwater retention services as well as enhancing urban biodiversity. Matariki Tu Rākau is part of the One Billion Trees programme, helping people to plant living memorials that honour members of their communities. Matariki Tu Rakau was launched on 25 April 2018 to mark the 100-year anniversary of the end of the First World War.

Whakatauki e tu kahikatea, hei wakapae uroroa Awhi mai, awhi atu, tatou, tatou e.
Kahikatea stand together; their roots intertwine, strengthening each each other. We all help one another and together we will be strong.

We have two opportunities for you to help out at this great new site:

– Friday 9 October, 10am-12:30pm. Come and help us lay out over 2000 kahikatea for Saturday’s planting.

– Saturday 10 October, 10am – 12pm. Today we’ll be working alongside Trees for Canterbury and the City Council at this planting day. Some tools and gloves supplied but bring your own if you have them.

Meeting point: 103 Philpotts Rd, Mairehau.

Gumboots essential both days – we can supply these – let us know your size if you need them.

We provide: tools, gloves, morning tea and a friendly team leader. Please bring a water bottle and come dressed appropriately for the weather.

We’d love to see you there, so please register below. Contact Donna (dlusby@cvnz.org.nz) 021 457 568 for more information.
