Ōtukaikino River Reserve – Community Planting
25 August at 10:30 am - 12:30 pm
An open invitation is extended for the public to participate in a ‘Planting Event’, with the goal of establishing additional native trees and shrubs. This key event in the ongoing development of the Ōtukaikino River Reserve is planned for Sunday 25th August.
The Reserve known for its reputation as an excellent recreation area is going under some major changes. This includes the restoration of native habitat in the area to improve ecological values that play an integral role in current recreation planning for future generations.
This project will provide wildlife corridors to protect and restore waterway plants and animals, wetlands and natural heritage values, and includes links to ponds, lakes and the Waimakariri River. This will be an ongoing partnership between the community, Trees for Canterbury and the Christchurch City Council.
The event is scheduled between 10.30pm and 12.30pm (followed by BBQ sausage) on Sunday 25th August at the Otukaikino River Reserve.
Please enter through the car-park, at the Ōtukaikino River Reserve (airport end) of Sawyers Arms Road, then follow signs from entrance car park to meeting point and parking area at the Roto Kohatu reserve. A CCC Park Ranger will guide you through to the planting area. Please arrive early as there is a 10-15 minute walk to the planting area. Look for the signs. Bring along family, friends and a spade.
