Sheppards Stream weed control
24/10/2019 at 9:30 am - 3:00 pm
Sheppard’s Stream is a remnant wetland in Waitākiri/Bottle Lake Forest on Christchurch’s eastern coast. Waitākiri/Bottle Lake Forest is an extensive pine plantation that was once an important food-gathering area (mahinga kai) for the people of Ngāi Tahu (local iwi/tribe) and their ancestors; they would gather eels (tuna) and other fish, and used native coastal plants for medicine, building materials, weaving, footwear and weapons.
We’ll be helping City Council Rangers with controlling willow in the beautiful Shepherd’s Stream wetland area, along with other tasks in the forest and the Waimakariri River mouth.
Come for part or all of the day and join our international volunteers! Tools, gloves and morning tea supplied. Bring drinking water, lunch and snacks, and wear sturdy footwear.
Note: for all of these projects we can provide transport, but spaces are limited, so get in touch to book your seat!
