Speak 4 The Planet
7 June at 9:30 am - 4:00 pm
The Speaking 4 the Planet event creates the space for Intermediate and High school students to show case their passion for our planet, and their talents in public speaking, spoken word and visual art.
Sustainable Ōtautahi are leading this with the local branch of NZ Assoc for Environmental Education. We have an amazing number of schools participating, hoping for 10 schools we currently have 13 schools eager and already supporting their students to be involved.
Before their peers and judges, students will bring their best skills in persuasion, communication and style to address global issues linked to the UN’s World Environment Day themes of #airpollution and #beatplasticpollution.
We would like to extend the invitation to support the students by helping us have an audience through the day. Year 7-9 students will speak in the morning and Year 10-13 from 1.30pm. You’re welcome to pop in anytime and the visual art exhibition is open for viewing all day. We are also putting out a special request to all SŌC members. If you are able, can you please spread the word by sharing on social media from our facebook page and if you or someone you know well are in a position to sponsor some prizes for the winning students please get in touch with our event manager Michelle Whitaker michelle@
We would like to acknowledge the brilliant supporters we have so far; Sustainable Initiatives Fund, Ara Institute, Christchurch City Libraries, Christchurch Arts Festival, Sustainability Office of University of Canterbury, Orana Wildlife Park, The Rubbish Whisperer, Remix Plastic and EarthSeaSky.
